Meet with OPEN

Individual Check-Ins

OPEN offers confidential, supportive, and non-judgmental check-in meetings that typically include two fifty-minute meetings with staff that can be held virtually or in-person on the Boston campus. Meetings focus on discussing your alcohol, cannabis and/or drug use, giving personalized feedback, and developing strategies to help you make informed decisions about alcohol and/or drugs through a risk reduction lens.

Learn more and request a meeting

All meetings are confidential and (if required as part of a sanction) only your participation and completion of a sanction will be reported to the conduct office.

If you are required to complete an individual check-in as part of a judicial sanction, your decision letter will note the dates by which you must contact OPEN and complete your sanction. In most cases, an OPEN staff member will contact you via your Northeastern email address within three business days of a finalized judicial decision to set up your first meeting. If you are not contacted by OPEN, it is your responsibility to make sure you complete your sanction by the date determined by your hearing officer.

OPEN is happy to meet with you and offer you check-in meetings even if you were not sanctioned to attend them. If you are looking for longer-term support, an OPEN staff member can also assist you in identifying and connecting with university and community resources. OPEN staff are also available to meet with students who are looking for information on supporting a friend around their alcohol or other drug use.

OPEN Group

Groups are ninety-minute discussions that cover facts and tips to minimize the not-so-good effects associated with alcohol, whether or not you choose to drink. Groups typically have three to eight students and are led by one or two staff. All meetings are confidential and only your participation and completion of a sanction will be reported to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution. To sign up for group, please complete the registration form. Alternatives can be arranged if needed (see learn more).

Programs

eCheckup to Go

Northeastern community members have access to the eCheckup for Alcohol and Cannabis programs that provide quick and confidential feedback about personal alcohol or cannabis use.

Learn more and access eCheckup to Go

These confidential and anonymous online programs will provide you with accurate and personalized feedback about your individual alcohol or cannabis use, how your use compares to other college students, your risk patterns, your aspirations and goals, and helpful resources at Northeastern University and in your community. Each questionnaire takes 10–20 minutes to complete. No information you provide in the eCheckup to Go program will be reported to Residential Life, OSCCR, NUPD, parents, etc.

These surveys do not require you to enter any identifying information in order to take them, so if you would like to take one or both for any reason, they can be completed anonymously. If you have any difficulty accessing or completing an eCheckup to Go or have questions, please feel free to contact OPEN at 617.373.4459 or open@northeastern.edu
